Embankment apartment

Prague / 2024

The renovation of the apartment on the embankment was mainly focused on the interior design. That is, the placement of built-in furniture in the context of the new arrangement of individual rooms, the layout of the kitchen, the selection of furniture pieces, lighting elements and surface materials. The main capacity of the apartment is its generous rooms with high ceilings, views of the opposite embankment with the "golden chapel" building, orientation of the bedrooms to the quiet courtyard and historic craftsmanship elements in the form of coffered door and window linings.

The original cassettes were the main inspiration for the concept of solving the details of the newly designed built-in furniture in all rooms. It is equipped with facets on the vertical and horizontal edges of the bodies. Cassettes with a surface of lacquered oak veneer, golden perforated sheet metal, artificial stone, or upholstery with distinctively colored velvet are then inserted into these subtle, interconnected frames. This solution unifies all interventions in the apartment into one conceptual unit. Each room has a slightly different atmosphere thanks to the different use of materials and accessories.

The living room got a new, generous library with storage spaces, covering one of its walls. Opposite her, a generous canvas with a ballet theme dominates the room. The furniture consists of a leather sofa with an armchair and a velvet solitaire "Loos" armchair. The rooms are complemented by reading lamps and a "chandelier" consisting of three voluminous wire lamps, anchored in large, custom-made circular canopies.

The dining room with the kitchen has a newly designed layout. A kitchen with a hidden pantry occupies the back of the room and is dominated by a large island that also serves as a bar. The furniture facets are also used on the white worktop made of artificial stone. The division of the room into dining room and kitchen, in addition to the island, is further enhanced by different lighting fixtures. The dining room, i.e. the front, lighted part with windows, is equipped with a distinctive custom-made dining table from ORA and is complemented by a second canvas with ballet flats. Thanks to the large opening, it is more connected to the living room.

The bedroom is equipped with built-in wardrobes that form a portal around the entrance door. Under the vaulted wall behind the comfortable bed is a large headboard - folded panels upholstered in azure velvet. The chandelier is made up of three paper lantern lights, and the additional lights are designed in the same spirit.

The office is divided into two zones. In the lower zone there is a study with storage spaces in the built-in furniture. It is equipped with a custom-made table and a comfortable ottoman for moments of relaxation and is complemented by a canvas that closes the ballet triptych. The upper zone with a floor, accessible by a ladder, is adapted for the occasional overnight stay of guests.

The entrance hall, cloakroom and social facilities remained without major changes, they were equipped with new furniture, accessories and lighting.
