GO Francin
Prague / 2024
GO Francin is a modern café in the heart of Smíchov, which combines fine coffee, honest desserts and a pleasant atmosphere. It recently joined the already operating Letenské café and the original roastery Francin Roaster's. GO Francin is located on the ground floor of one of the apartment buildings opposite the tram stop in the newly emerging district near Smíchov Station. We had the opportunity to build the interior from scratch. The focus of GO Francin in Smíchov is not only in coffee, but also in the preparation of breakfasts, snacks and simple dishes, including our own desserts and pastries. This concept made great demands on the staff and open kitchen facilities. If a visitor does not get a seat at the tables in the front window or directly on the sidewalk, they can continue along the entire bar to the rear upholstered bench and watch the food being prepared directly behind the bar, in the open kitchen. The volume of the back room is attached to one of the longitudinal walls, with one toilet at each end. The longitudinal side of this volume is formed by a Corian bar counter divided into a kitchen and a barista area. A ribbon with a menu winds above the bar, which copies the shape of the bar counter in plan and creates an imaginary boundary between the café and the back room. The front of the bar counter is covered with oak panels laid in a chevron parquet pattern, complemented by a brass plinth, which continues smoothly onto the wall parquet lining and creates a uniform material framework of the space. The tables with oak tops also have a brass leg. We used all of these high-quality materials in contrast with the original concrete skeleton of the building and the technical elements in the suspended ceiling. Both layers complement each other and together create the character of the interior.
